Insights into CUBES. This pilot project is more experimental than previous pilots and deviates a bit from the classic ArtE concept by combining several art genres. Below, Dominik Netz, who is part of the CUBES organizing team and also accompanies a CUBE, writes.

„Now the time has come, the production phase of the pilot project Cubes in Witten has begun. After we offered the participants four workshops with practical/art-historical and design-theoretical content, things really got going in the intensive week. The Orga team worked out the spatial concept with the artists and the individual very different ideas for the CUBES were presented and encountered with each other.

The production phase, which openly presented the process of creating the CUBES in a department store, took place mostly in the evening hours and often ended in stimulating discussions about the individual ideas. In the process, people supported and advanced each other again and again with ideas and confirmation.

Especially the permanent help with all questions concerning the best possible effect and feasibility of the ideas by Beáta Nagy (Projektfabrik) and her long experience were enriching for the young artists. The object designer Tobias Effing, as well as the company „Dropouts“ from Bochum supported the artists in all practical questions during their work process. In addition, the cooperation of the two with the Orga team made it possible for each participant to concentrate fully on his or her own creative process by taking care of the website, promotion, posters and flyers. In addition, the young artists were accompanied by the gallery schnieke+geil (Dominik Netz / René Scheffer) art historically.

This working environment was well received, as each artist was able to focus on and contribute his or her own art and thus his or her own ideas on how to deal with vacancies and future issues. Many of the artists were able to find creative companions for the future. In addition, the artists had to adapt to the space (shopping mall) as well as to the variety of art genres (painting, silkscreen, photography, music, performance, poetry, dance, established art) that collided with each other and outgrew themselves.

Everyone liked the free way of working together and since we are currently 10 days before showtime, the hot phase has begun. This means for us once again a closer collaboration with each other, more time in the room and more time for the creative and creative process but also for the final concept planning. After the project, Beáta Nagy and Dorit Remmert will offer participants the opportunity to learn more about applying for funding for solo and group exhibitions. This is to give each artist the ability to realize their own projects in the future.

Einblicke in CUBES. Dieses Pilotprojekt ist experimentieller als die bisherigen Pilotprojekte und weicht von der klassischen ArtE-Konzeption ein wenig ab, indem es mehrere Kunstgattungen in sich vereint. Im Folgenden schreibt Dominik Netz, der im Orgateam von CUBES tätig ist und auch einen CUBE begleitet.

„Nun ist es soweit, die Produktionsphase vom Pilotprojekt Cubes in Witten hat begonnen. Nachdem wir den Teilnehmenden vier Workshops mit praktischen/ kunsthistorischen und design-theoretischen Inhalten geboten haben, ging es in der Intensivwoche richtig los. Das Orga-Team erarbeitete mit den Künstler:innen das Raumkonzept und die einzelnen sehr unterschiedlichen Ideen für die CUBES wurden vorgestellt und stießen auf Begegnungspunkte untereinander.

Die Produktionsphase, die den Entstehungsprozess der CUBES offen in einem Kaufhaus präsentiert, fand meist in den Abendstunden statt und endete oft in anregende Diskussionen über die einzelnen Ideen. Dabei hat man sich immer wieder untereinander durch Ideen und Bestätigung unterstützt und voran gebracht.

Insbesondere die permanente Hilfe bei allen Fragen rund um die bestmögliche Wirkung und Durchfürbarkeit der Ideen von Beáta Nagy (Projektfabrik) und ihre langjährige Erfahrung waren bereichernd für die jungen Künstler:innen. Der Objektdesigner Tobias Effing, sowei die Firma „Dropouts“ aus Bochum unterstützten die Künstler:innen bei allen handwerklich praktischen Fragen während ihres Werkprozesses. Außerdem ermöglichte die Zusammenarbeit der beiden mit dem Orga-Team die volle Konzentration für jede:n Teilnehmer:in auf den eigenen Schaffensprozess, indem sie sich bereits um Website/ Promotion/ Plakate und Flyer kümmerten. Zudem wurden die jungen Künstler:innen durch die Galerie schnieke+geil (Dominik Netz/ René Scheffer) kunsthistorisch begleitet.

Dieses Arbeitsumfeld kommt gut an, da jede:r die eigene Kunst und damit die eigenen Vorstellungen vom Umgang mit Leerständen und Zukunftsfragen primär ins Auge fassen und einbringen konnte. Viele der Künstler:innen haben wohl kreative Weggefährt:innen auch für die Zukunft finden können. Zudem mussten die Künstler:innen sich sowohl wegen den Räumlichkeiten (Einkaufszentrum) als auch wegen der Vielzahl an Kunstgattungen (Malerei, Siebdruck, Photographie, Musik, Performence, Lyrik, Tanz, etablierte Kunst) die aufeinander prallen anpassen und über sich hinaus wachsen.

Allen gefiel die freie Art der Zusammenarbeit und da wir uns derzeit 10 Tage vor der Showtime befinden ist die heiße Phase angebrochen. Das heißt für uns noch mal eine engere Zusammenarbeit miteinander, mehr Zeit im Raum und mehr Zeit für den Kreativ- und Schaffensprozess aber auch für die letzte Konzeptplanung. Im Nachgang des Projektes wird die Projektfabrik durch Beáta Nagy und Dorit Remmert den Teilnehmenden noch die Möglichkeit bieten mehr über das Beantragen von Fördergeldern für Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen zu lernen. Damit soll jeder:jedem Künstler:in auch für die Zukunft die Fähigkeit zum Durchsetzen eigener Projekte erhalten.
