Next Sunday, February 28th, 18.00 h (CET), the participants of the ArtE project in Barcelona will stage „Historia de una escalera“ (Story of a staircase) by Antonio Buero Vallejo. The première (in Spanish) will be available online through UpSocial’s Youtube Channel.

In this piece, Buero Vallejo tells the story of Fernando and Urbano who, 100 years ago in Spain were facing obstacles, attitudes and constraints that are known to many young people today. The three acts of the play tell stories of job insecurity, poverty, frustration, hope and willingness to transform reality. Alongside the theatre work phase, the main characters of the play have helped the young participants reflect on their own experiences: ¿how can we walk outside the walls of our own staircase?

After 6 weeks of intensive theatre training, participants are now at the peak of the process. The première is the perfect opportunity to show friends, educators, potential employers and other professionals the result of so many hours of teamwork. It also represents a turning point for their own personal transformation process, which gains particular importance in a period of transition into adulthood.

On stage, they will be able to share not only their artistic talents, but also improved self-confidence, language, communication skills and self-perception, consequently transforming the perception of the audience.

ArtE does not end the day after the première. Its second phase will bring participants back to the classroom in order to take the lead of their own orientation processes, by building their own identities, networks and life projects. Activities will combine language training with visits to workplaces and service-learning activities, among others. For five more weeks, the artistic team will join the group once a week to keep the motivation up and maximise the achieved learnings.

El domingo 28 de febrero a las 18 h (CET), los 16 jóvenes participantes del proyecto ArtE en Barcelona estrenan „Historia de una escalera“, de Antonio Buero Vallejo. El evento se podrá seguir en directo a través del canal de YouTube de UpSocial.

En la pieza, Buero Vallejo nos cuenta la historia de Fernando y Urbano, que en la España de hace ya un siglo afrontaban obstáculos, actitudes y condicionantes que no son desconocidos para muchos jóvenes de hoy. Los tres actos de „Historia de una escalera“ nos hablan de precariedad laboral, frustraciones, anhelos de romper con el orden establecido y la esperanza de transformar la realidad vigente. A lo largo del proceso, los personajes de la obra también han conducido a nuestros jóvenes a reflexionar sobre su propia realidad: ¿cómo podemos traspasar los muros de nuestra escalera?

Tras seis semanas de formación teatral intensiva, los participantes se encuentran en el punto álgido del proyecto. El estreno es una oportunidad perfecta para mostrar a amigos, educadores, potenciales empleadores y otros profesionales el resultado de muchas horas de trabajo en equipo. Supone, también, un punto de inflexión en el proceso de transformación personal que están llevando a cabo los participantes quienes, cercanos a la mayoría de edad, afrontan la transición a la vida adulta.

Subiendo al escenario, podrán mostrar no sólo su talento artístico, sino también mejoras a nivel de confianza, lenguaje, habilidades comunicativas y autopercepción, transformando a su vez la percepción que tiene de ellos el público.

ArtE no termina el día después del estreno. La segunda fase implica la vuelta al aula para seguir profundizando en el proceso de orientación: un conjunto de actividades que combinará la formación linguística con visitas a empresas y actividades de aprendizaje-servicio, entre otras, para seguir construyendo sus propias identidades, redes y proyectos vitales. A lo largo de cinco semanas, el equipo artístico seguirá acompañándoles semanalmente para mantener la motivación y maximizar los aprendizajes.
